About Us
Women in View was officially founded in 2011 after the success of SexMoneyMedia, an international symposium on gender equity in media that took place in Vancouver, 2010. The overwhelming response from participants was that it was time to once again take a hard look at gender equity and racial diversity in our media. After decades of advances, the numbers of women working in many segments of the media have hardly changed, and for the past decade have been going in the wrong direction. At Women in View we seek to understand and combat the forces behind the current downward trends in women’s participation and the lack of movement we continue to see in women moving into senior level content determining positions.
Women in View is supported by grants, private donations and industry partners who are committed to forwarding research and action based strategies that will create a more equitable and sustainable media industry for all Canadians.
