Barri Cohen

BARRI COHEN -  filmmaker, writer, publisher, and television producer is a Writers Guild of Canada award-winning documentary filmmaker, writer and tv series producer. Her eclectic interests and personal tastes have drawn her to  topics that run from real life family dramas, women’s health stories, justice and environmental issues to so-called “guilty-pleasure”  personal transformation television.

She has produced over 100 hours of prime time documentary and factual programming for Canadian and international markets. Working with such leading companies as Breakthrough Films, Summerhill TV, Temple Street Productions, E1 Entertainment, and currently Frantic Films out of Winnipeg,  Barri has directed and led successful creative teams producing such series as Crimes of Passion, Stories of Mothers & Daughters, and the multi-Gemini nominated  and award-winning Family Dance, Heartbeats, and Situation Critical. She was the lead director in the ground-breaking hospital series for Life/Slice and CBC,  Little Miracles.  Her own prime time documentaries have been launched at film festivals and have won coveted awards and critical reviews, most notably her recent NFB enviro-doc, Toxic Trespass (2007). She produced season one of  the burlesque series, Re-Vamped , for Slice TV, and is currently producing the documentary series, The Opener for Food Network Canada.

Since 1993, Barri has held various positions as editor, publisher, and now editorial chair of Point of View Magazine – Canada’s leading journal about the culture and business of independent documentary culture and multi-media.
